Bus Network Reform

Why it matters

Buses are critical to connecting people with essential services including health, employment, education and wellbeing. Rapid growth in Melbourne's west has left many communities without adequate bus services, and some new suburbs in Melton and Wyndham have none at all.

Our ask:

For the Victorian Government to deliver a frequent, direct and accessible bus network for all of Melbourne’s west.

What LeadWest is advocating for

  • The expansion and reconfiguration of the bus network in Melbourne’s West to provide a more frequent, direct and accessible service, seven days a week.

Benefits

The benefits of transforming Melbourne’s bus network are comparable to any one of Victoria’s big road and rail projects – at a much lower cost.

Currently, Melbourne’s west has some of the highest levels of car use in Melbourne. We need to change this. We need to get people out of cars and on to public transport.

An integrated, reliable and safe bus network would provide a viable and cost-effective alternative to driving a car and would help reduce traffic congestion on our road network.

Without access to an effective and reliable public transport network, our communities face increased financial hardship, impaired health and wellbeing outcomes, and reduced access to services, jobs, education and social connections.
