Great news in the Federal Budget for Melbourne’s West! The Government has announced funding for the Western Intermodal Freight Terminal (WIFT) in Truganina and the Outer Metropolitan Ring Road and Rail Project.
The WIFT is located in the City of Melton. These two key projects combined will create 39,000 jobs in the West and deliver better and more efficient freight movements across Australia.
The Government has committed $740 million for the WIFT and $920 million for the Outer Metropolitan Ring – South Rail connection to the WIFT.
The Government has also committed funding for the second intermodal freight terminal in the neighbouring region of Melbourne’s North – the Beveridge Intermodal Freight Terminal (BIFT).
The WIFT and the BIFT are key transformational projects proposed and advocated for in the North and West Melbourne City Deal 2020-2040. The City Deal stakeholders and advocates: LeadWest, WoMEDA, Victoria University, Northern Councils Alliance, NorthLink and La Trobe University have finally seen their hard work come to fruition (in part at least) - worth celebrating!
