Westlink Route options -

The route options for Phase 1 are descripted in detail below.  You can also view them on an interactive map or download pdf of the map (PDF 350KB)

The Blue Option - It is proposed that a tunnel with a portan int he Port of Melbourne precinct will run under Footscray and emerge in a commercial area near Sunshine Road on the western side of Geelong Road. This would connect to the Western Ring Road, travelling through to Somerville Road before continuing west to join the Western Ring Road.

The Aqua Option - This route follows the blue option, with a longer tunnel that emerges beyond the residential area near Paramount Road.  This road would connect tot he Western Ring Road following the same pather as the blue route.

The Green Option - Like the blue and aqua options, it is proposed that a tunnel with a portal in the Port of Melbourne precinct run under Footscray and emerge in a commercial area near Sunshine Road on the western side of Gellong Road.  This would connect to the Western Ring Road by:

1. crossing to the north of sunshine Road and the railway line near West Footscray Railway Station and follow the railway reserve until it approaches Stony Creek

2. crossing back to the south of the railway line and Sunshine Road near Market Road and Kororoit Creek

3. following the southern side of the floodway behind Morrison, Rautman and Learmonth Crescents, staying out of the easement

4. joining the Western Ring Road near the Deer Park Bypass.

Linking Melbourne Authority have developed two options for WestLink to connect into the Western Ring Road.  These connections are interchangeable between the green and blue options.  The potential variation points are marked in grey ont he map and the best options will be considered in the next phase.
