New services to help in crucial first 1,000 days for western kids

May 9, 2017

Services across Melbourne's west are coordinating in a new way in order to help ensure families get the best support possible for the first 1,000 days of their children's lives.

Tweddle, the Footscray-based child and family health service, is the most recent service to join the Cradle-to-Kinder program, which helps to provide long term support for vulnerable families.

"Focusing additional Cradle-to-Kinder support in Melbourne's west is critical, with over 250 babies born in the region every week," said LeadWest's CEO Craig Rowley.

"The more we can do to support vulnerable families and especially children in the crucial first 1,000 days, the better off those kids will be throughout their childhood and into adulthood."

"This new program will help ensure that families that need extra support get it straight away."

Referrals for families in the Brimbank Melton region will begin in June.
