LeadWest Advocate - Special Edition

Sep 14, 2018

From LeadWest's CEO

After 8 years serving the communities of Melbourne’s west I’ve decided the time is right following the Victorian election to move on from my role as LeadWest's CEO. I have new and exciting opportunities ahead.

During my time as LeadWest's CEO I’m proud to have reinforced the economic, transport, infrastructure and environmental needs and assets of the region both state-wide and nationally.

My long service at LeadWest means there's been many notable achievements - too many to name. Personally, the highlights have been in the teamwork and collaborations through which we put Melbourne's west on the map as a region of opportunity, a place of progress and increasing prosperity.

I'm most grateful for the cooperation of many people. They've helped in securing commitments to city-shaping infrastructure projects, and influencing their design and delivery. This has improved economic, environmental, and social outcomes.

Stakeholders responded to our efforts for retrenched automotive manufacturing workers these past 2 years and they are bringing more focus to our region's youth employment challenge.

They've been part of our massive collective effort, involving literally thousands of people, to improve our environment and health through Greening the West and the 1 Million Trees project over the past 5 years.

They are active with the powerful campaigns we are now running to get the services urgently needed by Generation West, (the 40+ babies born here each day to thrive), and to get more Time for the West, which beyond improved public transport is ultimately about  delivering more quality time for families in our region.

I'm forever grateful for the invaluable work of Erin Farley and Ben Bowring on those campaigns and the broader advocacy work we do for our communities.  Together we've pushed hard to ensure it's well known everywhere and especially in the corridors of the Australian and Victorian parliaments that the Future is West.

It's been my priority to ensure that together we win what's needed for a better and brighter future for Melbourne’s west, on making our region the best place to live, the best place to raise great kids, the best place to learn, participate, grow and make a living.

It's been great to work with so many people who are passionate about our fast growing and rapidly changing region. I’ve established a great many new partnerships and friendships, all of which I hope will continue to strengthen, to keep pace with the burgeoning population of the West of which I am proud to be a part.

I'll be seeing us through to the outcome of the Victorian election.  LeadWest's Board has made arrangements for a smooth transition. An update on this will follow next week.

Craig Rowley, LeadWest's CEO
