Roads

Motorists and road-based freight can travel from Melbourne's east and the Port of Melbourne westward over Australia's third longest bridge - the West Gate Bridge - then follow the West Gate Freeway (M1/Tourist Route 2) to Laverton North.

At Laverton North, road traffic can go south-west on toward Werribee and Geelong via the Princes Freeway (M1) or north-west via the Western Ring Road (M80), which has encouraged both industrial and residential growth in Melbourne's western suburbs.

Melton can be reached off the Western Ring Road via the Deer Park Bypass and Western Freeway (M8), which continues on to Bacchus Marsh and Ballarat. 

Further north along the Western Ring Road, drivers can take the Calder Freeway (M79) to Sunbury and on to Bendigo.

They can also reach the Hume Freeway (M31) to head north or continue eastward to the Greensborough Highway in Melbourne's north-eastern suburbs.
