Melbourne’s west is strategically located close
to Melbourne’s CBD, the Port of Melbourne,
Melbourne Airport at Tullamarine and Avalon Airport, and the
major region centres of Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong.
Almost all of Melbourne’s interstate rail and road
connections run through or are adjacent to the region.
The region’s advantageous location and multifaceted infrastructure, coupled with a young and increasingly skilled workforce, reinforces Melbourne’s west as offering significant opportunities for business investment.
In recent years, Melbourne’s west entered a phase of major industrial development transformation, which accelerated with the re-development of the West Gate Bridge and the Western Ring Road.
The region has a strong manufacturing, logistics and supply chain, freight and distribution base, and will continue to play a vital role in meeting Victoria’s industrial and logistics needs. A wave of investment in logistics-based industries led to the formation of the Western Industrial Node, which is recognised as one of the three major industrial nodes in the Melbourne metropolitan region.
The Melbourne West Growth Corridor Plan will see extension of the Western Industrial Node and the connection of it to a new freight terminal and the metropolitan transport network.
