Higher Education in Melbourne's West
To underpin economic, social and environmental improvements in our region, Melbourne’s west needs centres of excellence in regional, national and transnational education. The diverse population of our region requires access to excellent pre-tertiary facilities, thereby providing pathway opportunities to people capable of succeeding in tertiary education but who have not successfully completed secondary education.
There are good opportunities to work with governments and industries to develop ‘innovation’ precincts in Melbourne’s west. The Werribee Employment Precinct, currently home to a number of research and development organisations including CSIRO Food and Nutritional Sciences, the Dairy Innovation Centre and Agrifood Technology, Victoria University’s Werribee Campus, the Melbourne Clinical School of the University of Notre Dame Australia and Werribee Mercy Hospital’s affiliation with RMIT University, Australian Catholic University, Ballarat University, Deakin University, Flinders University and the Australian College of Nursing. The Werribee Employment Precinct has the potential to develop into an innovation precinct that complements the South East Melbourne Innovation Precinct and strengthens Victoria as the Innovation Business and Knowledge Capital in the Asia-Pacific.
