Regional Rail Link (RRL)

More than just a rail line

Victoria’s Regional Rail Link is a $4.3 billion rail infrastructure project based in Melbourne’s western suburbs and the nearby growth corridor.

Regional Rail Link is not just about laying tracks. It is part of how we support growth and renewal in Melbourne’s West, and the regions beyond.

Regional Rail Link will provide capacity for enough extra train services for up to 9,000 passengers travelling on Western Victoria’s rural and regional services during peak hour.

Regional Rail Link will deliver two new stations (at Tarneit and Wyndham Vale), new tracks and overdue upgrades to existing stations in Melbourne's west (Footscray, West Footscray, Tottenham and Sunshine).

Regional Rail Link will separate city and country trains, enabling system-wide improvement in rail services across the whole Melbourne network.

The Victorian Government is now consulting with industry and stakeholders about opportunities to determine the earliest timelines for building the project, optimise scope and achieve cost savings.

Stakehholders across the region are concerned that delay means costs increase.

Uncertainty about change to the scope of the project may harm investment in Melbourne's west and the cities of Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo.
