Primary Schools

The primary school age population of Melbourne's west grew in the period 1996 to 2006 from 52,571 to 59,393.

There are 90 public primary schools located throughout Melbourne's west. 

There are 53 Catholic primary schools in Melbourne's west, which is split into two of the four regions of the Archdiocese of Melbourne. In the area of Melbourne's west covered by the Archdiocese's northern region there are 22 primary schools and in the western region there are 31 primary schools throughout the parishes.

There is also presently 18 independent primary schools located throughout Melbourne's west, including Christian, Islamic and non-denominational schools.
