Sunshine Hospital Redevelopment
More than $200 million has been committed for Western Health to expand and modernise Sunshine Hospital in a series of three stages.
Sunshine Hospital operates in the Brimbank, Wyndham and Melton catchments and is only 20 minutes from CBD of Melbourne just off the Western Ring Road.
An official sod-turning event on Thursday 29th January at Sunshine marked the commencement of building works for Western Health's $51.6 million state-of-the-art Teaching, Training and Research facility and $40.6 million radiotherapy factility which is the corner stone of the Stage Two Redevelopment at Sunshine.
Western Health also partnered with the University of Melbourne and Victoria University to develop the new teaching, training and research facility at Sunshine Hospital - the Western Centre for Health Education and Research.
The University of Melbourne established a new clinical school at Sunshine to provide undergraduate and postgraduate training of doctors in Melbourne's west. This will assist in addressing a national shortage of doctors, particularly in outer metropolitan areas.
Victoria University established a centre for education and training of nurses and allied health professionals.
