The City of Melton is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia, offering the best in urban and rural lifestyles within a comfortable commuting distance from Melbourne.
Encompassing a total land area of 527 square kilometres, the City of Melton includes the main urban centre of Melton, the growing western suburban spread of Melbourne in the Caroline Springs/Hillside area and several smaller townships, including Diggers Rest, Rockbank and Toolern Vale.
The enumerated population of the City of Melton more than doubled between 1991 and 2006, rising from 35,000 in 1991 to over 78,000 in 2006. In 2011, the population of Melton Shire was 109,259 and significant population increase is expected to continue.
The City of Melton offers diverse lifestyles and affordable living, which is why 38 households move into the municipality each week. Currently, each week 33 babies are born to families in the muncipality. Over 70 per cent of the City of Melton's population is under 45 years old.
