Dr Rob Brown
LeadWest's Board has two types of Director: Participating Council Nominated Directors and Elected Directors. An Alternate Director can be appointed for each Director.
Dr Rob Brown became an Elected Director of LeadWest in October 2012, after serving the preceding seven months as Alternate Director for another Elected Director, Professor Linda Rosenman of Victoria University.
At LeadWest's Annual General Meeting in November 2014, Dr Brown was re-elected to serve another two-year term as a Director.
At LeadWest's Annual General Meeting in November 2016, Dr Brown was re-elected to serve a second two-year term.
Dr Brown became Pro Vice-Chancellor (Institutional Services) at Victoria University in 2006, and Pro Vice-Chancellor (External Affairs) in 2011.
He has also undertaken executive roles in professional associations, including the Association of Tertiary Education Management (ATEM). He serves as a Director on the Boards of Higher Education Services and Engagement Australia, and served as a member of the panel of AUQA auditors.
Dr Brown has a wide background in educational administration, particularly in the tertiary sector. He initially trained as a secondary English and ESL teacher, and his early career was served in the Curriculum Branch of the Western Australian Education Department, as well as through teaching in government and private institutions.
His background in educational administration grew to encompass roles as Academic Secretary, Faculty Manager, and Director of Policy and Planning, before commencing his role as Executive Director - Governance, Policy and Planning Services at Victoria University in 2004. Areas which he has overseen during his tenure at Victoria University include marketing, governance, strategic planning, risk management and compliance.
Dr Brown's professional interests particularly focus on tertiary education policy and analysis and the role of engagement in positioning universities, as well as the strategic marketing of education services (in which area he completed his doctorate). His personal interests include music and sports, especially cricket.
