Activities and Achievements in 2007-08 (Year 1)
LeadWest was formed in 2007 by five councils in Melbourne's west (Brimbank, Maribyrnong, Melton, Moonee Valley and Wyndham).
In May 2007 the interim Board held its first formal meeting and in November at a Special General Meeting the full Board Directors of LeadWest was established, including appointment of the initial independent Chair, five Directors nominated by the five member councils and four Directors elected by the members.
Following an establishment phase of appointing a Chief Executive Officer and securing an appropriate office, LeadWest was formally launched in March 2008.
At the request of the Federal Minister for Health, LeadWest's CEO participated in the Australia 2020 Summit held in April 2008, at which he discussed issues such as transport, health, infrastructure, jobs, housing and the environment.
In June 2008, LeadWest and Western Melbourne Tourism signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formally consolidate the partnership between the two bodies in a bid to better promote Melbourne's west as a tourist destination.
